I regularly commute between Chicago, IL, where I live, and Waterloo, IA. I make a point of stopping at the LeClaire McDonald's for 1/2 hour break. The service is fast and friendly. The restaurant is clean and bright with huge windows overlooking the Mississippi River at the I-80 crossing. It is paired with a Shell gas station which is clean and has good coffee. Buy the Shell coffee for your meal.
If it is late and you are looking for a place to stay overnight, there is a well kept Holiday Inn higher up on the bluff.
What makes this McDonald's worth a regular stop is the view of the Mississippi River from its bluff location. When weather allows, eat on the tables out front for great views, or on the grass just in front of the parking lot for more great views. There are large grassy fields all around, with more great views. After eating stretch your legs with an outdoor stroll before getting into the car.

This location is such a joke! The ovens are broke too often, their scanner and credit card machine is usually broke and their breakfast food is ALWAYS cold.
